Movie Releases, 3/24

In a way, I guess I lied last week when I said Thank You for Smoking was coming out. It came out, but not wide--I think it's going to be April before that hits more screens.

This week, the big one is going to be Inside Man. I've already reviewed Spike Lee's new movie, and I thought it was a great deal of fun.

Also coming out--a movie that could only exist in this day and age--Stay Alive. The murderous supernatural has now found a new target--video game geeks. In this horror flick, nerds (including Frankie Muniz and Adam Goldberg) play an unlicensed game called, appropriately, Stay Alive. If you die in the game, you die for real. So--I guess there's no suspense after that, huh? Sounds like a premise that wasn't thought through all the way--but who knows? Could be OK. Doubting it.

And here's a movie that looks like it's trying to become the new "Ernest" series--Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector. Larry the Cable Guy brings his redneck comedy to the big screen in the attempt to capture the essential trailer park demographic. After this, we're sure to see him go to camp, save Christmas, and go to jail, maybe even get scared stupid.

And hey--box office returns are down five weeks in a row. Who could have predicted that with all the winners that have been coming out? Look for this week to make it 6, and industry pundits looking to next week's Ice Age 2 to save the day. Or will it be Basic Instinct 2? You decide.
