A lot of people enjoy the format of the All-Star game, where the league winner gets home field in the World Series, but you might as well chalk up the American League getting home-field every year under this format. It was once a game the National League dominated, a span from 1955-1982 that the AL won 4 times total. In the span of 1983-2004, the American League has won 15 times to the NL's 6, and of course there's a tie in there, and the NL hasn't won since 1996! It didn't really matter last year, as home-field doesn't generally matter (except for 1987, 1991, and 2001, all classic World Series won by all home teams), but this dominance has no end in sight. You'd think with the lineup the NL put up yesterday, they could have gotten back into it. I really don't understand, also, with the game "meaning something," why you just don't stick with that lineup, giving-everyone-a-chance-to-play-be-damned. And with all the controversy, Clemens vs. Schmidt as to who should start, why Schmidt didn't even pitch. Just a disappointing turnout from the NLers, who had guys who could match every one of the AL guys.
