Well, today I saw a great game between the Houston Texans and the Vanderbilt Commodores. Once again, the Commodores couldn't convert on third and short situations. Vandy QB Steve McNair showed some signs of maturity, but he still needs a little seasoning. Senior wide receiver Drew Bennett used to make some really tough catches when he was a junior, but now that he is being relied upon to make those catches, he has started to drop them at a frequent and alarming rate. Not bad, though, Vanderbilt only lost by 10 points and that's something to build on for next year. With this kind of play, the preseason optimism for a year of six wins or more may have been a little too farfetched.
