Dumbness

I've been watching baseball all day today, and seeing the Braves beat the Mets was great. However, this post concerns the Cubs-Reds game, currently in the 7th inning and tied 7-7.

Why is it tied? Because the Reds perhaps made one of the dumbest decisions I have recently ever witnessed. Derrek Lee is red hot right now. Scorching. He's hitting over .400 and is very high or at the top of every offensive category. He had already hit a 2-run HR earlier in the game, was 3-for-3 all told, and he comes up with men at second and third, 1 out, score 7-4 Reds. Seems like the easy thing to do is walk him or pitch around him, but the decision was made to challenge him as if Lee was Mario Mendoza. Those are the types of decisions that I really hate in baseball, even though the outcome can be exciting. Watching Lee hit his 2nd HR and collect his 4th, 5th, and 6th RBI of the game was exciting, but if you're a Reds fan you've got to be calling for heads in that situation. There's just no excuse.

But as a Cubs fan, I'm saying thank god for the stupidity of the Cincinatti Reds.

From what I saw, it was a back and forth game. I missed the 3-rn HR, so I can't comment, but it sounds like you're right, Chris. But, we won anyhow! Haha!

Well, actually, Mike...no you didn't. Corey Patterson hit a solo HR in the bottom of the ninth and the Cubs won 8-7. And the game was far from back and forth. The Reds were up 6-1 after a grand slam. Then the Cubs scraped a run back, and Lee hit his 1st HR, and then the Reds scored again and it was 7-4.
