And Things Take A Turn Toward The Surreal
Pardon me if I struggle to get through this post without laughing...
Jesse Jackson...
...has weighed in on the Terrell Owens issue.
Take a minute to let that sink in.
Why the hell does Jesse Jackson think his opinion matters on any NFL issue?
For the record...Ralph Nadar also spoke out against the Owens suspension. Somehow that doesn't stop my giggles.
Am I the only one laughing about this? Someone please tell me why a civil rights guy needs to comment on an NFL player suspension issue that is in NO WAY about race?
Who is the NFL-fan out there saying, "You know, I really didn't care that much about T.O. before, but now that Jesse Jackson has weighed in, I'm interested"? And who is the whack-job lackey reporter out there who says, "I just HAVE to know what Rev. Jackson has to say about T.O., it'll put everything into perspective"?

Someone is always going to look at the race angle when it comes to a black guy losing his job for any reason, even when the move is to mostly placate your other black superstar.
Eventually, in the next decade or so, we'll probably be spared the remarks of prominent civil rights guys on issues that don't have anything to do with them. Through the span of Earth's time, we are a mere thread away from the sixties and we still have some of the old guard around from that era.
The main problem is that we have too many journalists, all trying to make their mark, trying to find a story because their editors tell them, "Go find the story." And when there isn't one, it's time to call Jesse Jackson (or some other historical figure) and figure out what he thinks about whatever is happening at the time.
