Patron Shot To Death At 50 Cent Movie!!!

Holy! Freaking! Crap!

A man in Pittsburgh attending the new 50 Cent film, Get Rich Or Die Trying, was shot at the concession stand and died. For real. Not a joke.

In light of our recent discussions...it seems as though Regal may have known something we didn't. Or at least they might have had legitimate concerns about security.

It was a Lowe's Theater in this shooting incident. They have pulled the movie from that location.
There isn't any information yet as to what promted the shooting...or if it was related in any way to the film, though the victim was at the theater to see 50 Cent's acting debut.

Now, I used to work with Chris at the theater he's at now. Even without 50 Cent movies opening...the customers can be a little rough, regardless of color. It was a place that once or twice became scary. There have been gang fights, an accidental gunshot, mass automobile break-ins and thefts...it's just such a large theater that you can't help but have sporadic problems. I used to say, with only hint of humor, "It's only a matter of time before someone gets killed here."

Cannot begin to imagine what the managers and employees at this Pittsburgh theater are feeling. I know I'd be nervous going back into work after something like this.

Up 'til now...our discussion was merely academic. No longer.

See, I still think this is sensationalized. I think, and perhaps I'm very wrong, that shootings occur, not regularly per se, but at least some of the time have happened before and there wasn't any media coverage of those because there wasn't a 50 Cent movie playing at the time.

This is where the media "finds" the story. If the guy got shot coming out of CHICKEN LITTLE we wouldn't have heard anything. It'd a been just another ho-hum shooting.

Probably unrelated, but still terrifying. You've had GANG fights at your theater??

Sheesh, and I thought Worcester and Boston were tough. Never heard of a gang fight in our Worcester theater. Though I did witness the start of one in a Filenes at the mall..... That was bizarre.

At least it's the weekend. Always look on the bright side of life...

Yeah, Chris, I see your point.

I'm just saying...now Regal has something to back up their stance.

I think you're right about how there have surely been shootings at theaters we haven't heard of.

It could be this dead dude slept with someone else's wife or something...and he would have been shot no matter what movie he was seeing.

Doesn't make me feel good, though, that now Regal will feel vindicated.

Yes, no doubt. Once again, people will find any one incident to back up their stance, even if it's an isolated incident.

Now, MJ, our theatre could be considered "rough" compared to others, but it's not like there's graffiti on the walls and people twirling toothpicks in their mouths staring down each other over tipped-down sunglasses.

But ours is where most "thugs" appear because we cater to the poorer section of Nashville--the two Regals that are closest to us, Green Hills, which plays the arthouse fare, and Opry Mills, which is the heart of the country-music tourism and second largest mall in the city (although I don't know how they figure only the 2nd, because it's freakin' huge), get, in general, less thugs per capita.
