Movie Releases, 6/16
This should be a competitive weekend in movies. Leading the pack is three times as fast! Three times as furious! The Fast & the Furious: Tokyo Drift. This one stars Lucas Black as our hero daredevil, taking over for Paul Walker. Hollywood got racing crazy this year--we have last week's Cars, this, and the Will Ferrell comedy Talladega Nights coming soon.
And Jared Hess, who made the wildly overrated Napoleon Dynamite, has a new comedy starring Jack Black that looks like it could teeter on hit-and-miss quite a bit--Nacho Libre, concerning a priest (Black) who moonlights as a masked wrestling character to save an orphanage.
Speed co-stars re-unite in the Frequency-esque The Lake House. Sandra Bullock once resided in said house, and sends love letters to new occupant Keanu Reeves, but all romances must have a conflict--and that is that they are living two years apart from each other! Whoa! Pop quiz, hotshot, how in the hell is this possible? It looks fairly intriguing. At the very least, I'd like to know the answer, and I guess Warner Bros. is hoping you will, too.
Go out and rent Garfield, now, because the sequel is on its way, starring Bill Murray again as the voice of the beloved Jim Davis feline. You might not be able to keep up with the plot twists or hilarity. Breckin Meyer plays Jon and Jennifer Love Hewitt is his sweetheart Liz.
Cars will likely still be the number one movie, but it's a toss-up on F&F 3 and Nacho Libre as to which will be 2nd. My guess is that the franchise picture will win out, but it won't be by much.
