Paper Tigers

And so, the St. Louis Cardinals complete one of the most improbable postseason triumphs I've ever seen. This World Series was actually pretty terrible, with the young Tigers team giving away runs at every turn, but I'm glad the Cards won it, in their incredible baseball town, and as a Braves fan, I'll let my team take partial credit in their run.

Anyway, congrats to St. Loo.

How long ago did you dream up that "paper tigers" title for the post? That one writes itself, eh?

It actually wasn't too long ago. I think it was after Game 4, and I heard an analyst say something like, "On paper, the Tigers should be beating the Cardinals." And then the term, "Paper Tiger" came to my head, not only the phrase but George Plimpton's book about trying to make it with the Detroit Lions in the book Paper Lion. I thought it was pretty cool, too.
