McNair to the Dolphins

Blow it up, fellas.

The Titan season is a bust. Even with more talent on the roster than many winning-record teams...they can't get it done.

Either next year or the following one McNair is due to collect a $50million-plus payout that will surely mutilate the cap for this team. They've renegotiated with him time and time again to where we now owe him an incomprehensible amount of money. There's no way they pay that money. Even if he were co-MVP again we wouldn't pay that kind of money. He's not young. Even when he played this year he has looked bad.

According to Yahoo Sports, McNair's stats for the season are as follows: 907 yards passing (Manning has almost that many in the last two games), 4 touchdowns, 6 interceptions, and 2 fumbles. And that's in 6 games played.

Volek, on the other hand, in 6 games played, has 1012 passing yards, 6 touchdowns, 5 interceptions, and 3 fumbles....making him marginally better so far for the year. Now I'm not saying Volek is our savior....but clearly one of these things is not like the other, if you know what I mean. One QB is costing us a couple million a year. One is about to cost us 50 million dollars. You do the math. (Psst-the cheaper QB, the one with better numbers this year, he's also younger, meaning he's got more years to play left in him.)

Now I love McNair. He's a great player, and an even better team-leader as far as toughness and leadership. But his cap number and Eddie's cap number and Kearse's cap number for several straight seasons caused the Titans to have cap woes. Luckily we were still winning despite these woes in past years. This year, it's caught up to us. We dropped Eddie and Kearse. Dropping McNair opens the cap up wide enough to drive a bunch of top young prospects into the fold. This is the year to blow it all up boys. Go get us some young talent. Go get us some mid-level free agents. But get us something. No more Doug Johnsons and Antoine Smiths. But to do that...we need to free up some cash. And if you just take the basic principles of math...and glance over the payroll....there's really only one player left on the roster whose number is so large that it jumps off the page at you: McNair. It might have bought him a few more years with me if he'd played like an MVP this year instead of, well, like Doug Johnson.

On a personal note: I'd love to see our team leader be a guy that doesn't drive drunk with handguns in the car.....and doesn't fight arrest charges with high-priced lawyers finding loopholes.....but that's just me. I happen to think Leonard Little should be strung up on a pole for people to spit on and whip stones at as they walk past. I cannot abide people who drive drunk, but I want to mangle and embarrass people who drive drunk after they've already killed someone while driving drunk....again, though, that's just me.
