Vandy!

How incredible is this Vandy run? I just watched them beat Ole Miss, holding on in the last quarter. Last year they blew five leads in the fourth on the way to another two win season. This year, Cutler looks like the real deal, they have two quality RBs, and the rest of the team is feeding on that. At least, that's my opinion. In the third and fourth quarter, when they went on their expected falter and nearly blew a 21 point lead, it was the Vandy of old; the one we're used to. But Cutler quickly took over, taking two plays to get back into the Red Zone, and despite the blocked FG, they showed they weren't going to roll over and left the Rebels walk all over them.

At the end of the game, with one second left, an eight point lead, a first down, and the ball, I was still imagining ways that Vandy could lose. That's how ingrained a last quarter loss is for even casual observers. The greatest part is that, despite making mistakes, they won anyhow. They didn't have to play a perfect game to win.

It's an interesting and tough schedule from here. Richmond and MTSU are next, and they had better win both as the games get much harder. They play four top ten teams (LSU, Georgia, Florida, UT), with only Kentucky and South Carolina looking like games they might be favored to win. To get that elusive bowl game, they probably need to upset one of those top ten teams, which is a tall order.

I don't know...if they win all those games they have a good chance to win, and lose all the games against good teams, they'd be 7-4. That should give them a bowl.

There was a rule change this year that allows a I-A school to count one I-AA win to bowl eligibility. Meaning that a win against Richmond counts towards a bowl, and would not have just last year. That's great news for Vandy, as they can drop one of their four winnable games (which is likely) and still make a bowl. When writing, I did not know this rule had taken effect, and think Vandy will likely lose at least one game to either South Carolina, Kentucky, or MTSU.

Here's where I got my info:
