Why Can't People Just Talk About Baseball Anymore?

I started this off as a comment, but it became a little too long, so I turned it into a post. This is not an attack at Mike or Chris, and I agree that the whole steroid thing takes away something from the game I've loved since I was a little kid.
But at some point aren't we looking to closely at all of this? When does this stop being about making the game fair and flat out McCarthyism?

The fact is the game has never been what a true definition of fair would be? There are the standout players beating up on the weaker ones. And with or without steroids, Bonds is a great baseball player. I don't give a damn if the dude was taking steroids, a single drug doesn't make you as good as he is at the game. I'm not saying that it hasn't helped improve his game, but it's not freaking magic juice.

It sucks that this is what he was doing. It sucks that it's hard to know how to gauge his records. And unfortunately for Barry, he's an ass, so the likeability factor doesn't even come into play.

But I still love baseball, and I will keep loving baseball. There are a lot of great athletes out there that are not abusing their bodies to get some better stats. But no one wants to talk about that. Let's start hanging the guys from the bleachers because they may or may not have taken part in some things that would go against a lot of people's feelings toward the game and how it should be played.

I am so sick and tired of hearing about this bullshit when baseball is brought up by all the analysts. All I've heard so far in the early stages is talks about Bonds, Soriano being an idiot, and how much the WBC sucks. Why not start talking about the upcoming season and how well certain teams are going to do; hot prospects; who's going into a contract year. Whatever, but stop focusing on the negative, people. Don't watch if you don't like it; it's that simple, but why do people have to try and ruin it for those of us that want to watch the game we love.

Make a case for soccer being the highest rated sport in the world. Talk about the amazing numbers and dollars football and NASCAR bring in. Talk about the NBA being; well no one really cares about that anymore. However, baseball is the American classic, like it or not. And it's a hell of a game. Let's focus on that for a change.

Jonathan, society maybe looking at this too closely but then it goes back to the whole "people are watching them accomplish this goals but they are getting help to do this." Then again, there are a lot of great stories and players in the NFL but who is the focus during the current off season? Terrell Owens. This maybe a generalization but let me throw this out, don't we always build people up just to knock them down? Human nature at its worst. I like to read gossip magazines and disect the articles. So and so slept with so and so. . .I don't know what really goes on in their lives but I read about them and I pass judgement. As an example, I can no longer watch a movie with Tom Cruise in it because of his opinions from this past year. It is a bad habit (and it is easy to fall into it) to become negative and pick apart and question whatever is going on.

Hopefully, this story will die down and the focus can go back on the sport itself. Who knows? It just goes to show you how society has lowered its level of standards.
