Oh Captain, My Captain

Kimmo the Captain is gone. So is Scotty, "the bull" Hartnell. Read about it in the Tennessean here. They both play for the Philadelphia Flyers now.

I'm not going to talk about how this is yet another sign that the team is leaving. I've beaten that dead horse enough.

What has me mad today, more than simply trading two of our most beloved players to the Flyers...is the fact that, as the article states, the Predators NEVER EVEN MADE AN OFFER to either player. Discussions NEVER HAPPENED AT ALL, not in any shape or form.

Wait, it gets better. The article says that because of the sale of the team being in the air...we won't be making offers or having discussions with the rest of our free agents (these would be folks like Forsberg and Kariya, by the way). Great. Maybe we'll be able to get a sixth round pick for Kariya, what do you think?

Nevermind that we traded our captain (and a top-ten defenseman in the league) and our most physical player for one lousy draft pick...a draft pick that was ours to begin with...that we traded them last year...

Sheesh. So...the supposed only way we can keep our team is to sell tickets this year like crazy... how do we get Nashville excited about this team when we're having a fire sale?

Also, what happens if the league nullifies the sale? Then we get to keep our team....stocked with nobodies. We'll get to keep a really, really average team. Hooray for us... I guess.

Yeah, when I read about this, combined with the news of the possible "nullification," I couldn't help but think that we're not going to be too happy no matter how this all turns out.

And Liepold sucker-punched us on the way out by activating the attendance clause. I'm sure that was a pre-condition of the sale.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you the Montreal Expos.
