Bored...

I miss the old New Year's Day format. There were a ton of games, and at least one of them would be good at any given hour. There wouldn't be time for any hockey game, great idea as playing at Wrigley is. Right now the Rose Bowl is a bore, and there's nothing else to watch! It's New Year's Day, and I'm thinking about leaving the house to buy some stuff. That would have been sacrilege once! But no more.

Yeah, I can't remember how long ago it was, but Jan. 1 was always a day you woke up and there was constant football on from noon to late evening, and the whole national championship picture was either clear-cut or there would be three teams with a chance and we'd wait to hear the AP results.

The bowls were all "pure," too, no wordy sponsor + classic name of bowl bowls. And there were no watered down teams playing, either.

The only thing the BCS has been good for is no more automatic bids, keeping those #1 vs. #11 bowls off the board. Those were ridiculous.

I remember my dad and I bringing the other tv into the living room because we needed it to watch all of the friggin' bowl games. The new format really sucks.
