Movie Releases, 1/20
Here are the movies coming to my theatre on January 20:
Get ready for more sucking as the sequel to one of the most awful movies of the decade comes out in Underworld: Evolution. The first one made about $50 million in the U.S., which seemed hardly a reason to greenlight the sequel almost immediately (this is a movie that was made not because it had a strong showing on video, but because of the opening weekend). To add insult to injury, director Len Wiseman married one of the hottest girls on the planet, star Kate Beckinsale.
The other release is The End of the Spear. This is based on the true story of missionaries sent to Ecuador and are killed by the Waodani tribe, a tribe that learns the error of their ways, even befriending one of the families.
The others we're getting are in knee-jerk reaction to Awards season--Capote, The Squid and the Whale, and Brokeback Mountain, all movies I've reviewed. And then I ask, why not The New World?
The New World is also coming out, not at my theatre but at others. I've wanted to see this for some time.

ouch, is it bad to say that I actually liked Underworld and am sort of looking forward to the second one?
I thought it was a pretty good mindless action flik. Not entirely unlikeable...
